Cricut & Silhouette Why?

So the big question is...why did I buy a Silhouette if I have the Cricut?

Well here is why...I'm love this hobby....I love making cards, working on scrapbook pages, and even altering projects...I love everything that comes with this hobby. I will confess I'm a scrapbooking, rubber stamping, cardmaking addict....

As I mentioned yesterday I've really gotten back into scrapbooking my family memories and one thing I loved about the Silhouette is how detailed the cuts are. I can't cut a one inch phrase on my Cricut with the detail you can get from the Silhouette. Does this mean I'm not going to use my Cricut anymore? No Way..I love my Cricut and as you guys can probably tell I use it for the shapes and not so much for the fonts and words. I purchased the Silhouette to use mainly for cutting scrapbook page titles...

I will still continue my cardmaking/Cricut and rubber stamping videos as I have been doing on Monday's and Friday's and sharing some other scrappy fun in between. The thought of abandoning my Cricut hasn't even crossed my mind. Cricut is here to stay!!!!

Hugs to all and happy Crafting

  1. I am so glad you are loving the silhouette. Teri really has gotten all of you addicted to it. You are right about not being able to cut titles or phrases on the cricut. I too love my cricut but only use it for shapes. I have many font carts and they never get used.
I also love this hobby. It is a never ending one.
Thanks for sharing all of your videos and inspiring us daily.

  7. Without a doubt you are a lucky lady to have both. Love my cricut for the shapes but not so much for smaller letters! Would never consider abandoning my cricut either.

  8. I agree...love all your projects regardless of what machine you use..they are all awesome!! I have the same frustrations with the Cricut of not being able to cut the phrases...so hopefully there will be a Silhouette in my future to use for cutting those. Thanks for all your inspiration!!

  10. Oh, now you've got me wanting a Silhouette!!! My husband won't be thanking you, though! LOL!!! Keep on making all these how-to videos ~ I've learned SO much from watching them!
I have SCAL for my Cricut, but I haven't used it much. I think it works a lot like the Silhouette with the computer, but I know the cuts aren't as smooth and detailed when dealing with fonts.

I am not a Cricut Purist....I think that whatever works for you is what you should use! I can't wait to see what you do with your new buddy!

  12. AHA! Thanks for the explanation!! I thought I was just too impatient with my Cricut to get it to cut pretty words/phrases. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! I'll go research the silhoutte & decide if I'll use it enough to warrant getting one too.

I can't wait to see what you create with it!

  13. I have to agree that cutting titles on the Cricut can be frustrating if the font's too small. I'm waiting to learn more from you on the Sil before I jump in the buy yet another machine! Boy, do we have an expensive hobby!

  15. Every since I've seen Teri's layout using the Silhouette, I've wanted to get one.. I love my cricut too and you already know that, but I love the fonts that can be cut with the Silhouette..

  16. I was wondering about the Silhouette... I guess I figured if you had one die cutter, why would you need another one. I just never asked. It's cool that you're able to have them both. I can't wait to see more of what you do with the newest toy! Hugs

  17. I am so glad you explain this to me....and you are so right about the fonts on the cricut....I just thought they were suppose to be big....now I know....I really do appreciate this and I so value your opinion on this too.....thank you for being so honest......and forthright...

  18. I too am considering getting a Silhouette - I love the Sure Cuts Alot software, but due to Cricut's suits against MTC and threatening Craft Edge (SCAL) the company has chosen to no longer support the version which uses the Cricut. I personally think Cricut is making a huge mistake and I will be getting a Silhouette very soon. I have a lot invested in cartridges so I won't give up the Cricut yet, but when it finally gives out I probably won't replace it and I certainly won't be buying anymore carts. Will love to see what you do with the Silhouette! TFS!

  19. Christina, I,too, have both the Silhouette and Cricut and I use both about equally. They both have their pros and cons and I guess that is why I have both. I always look forward to your posts.

  20. Now you'll have to get Make the cut software. I love it and have been looking at getting a different machine besides the cricut for all the reasons stated above. So, glad to hear more about the silhouette.

  21. I also have both machines and love them each for different reasons. I am currently working on a layout that I have used both the Silhouette and the Cricut on. I cut out a large artisan label on the Cricut and the title and sub title on the Silhouette.

  22. I love your work regardless of what machine you are using. For a while I have been considering getting a Silhouette, especially since Cricut will no longer allow Sure Cuts Alot and MTC tobe used. Will you be doing Silhouette videos? I'd really love to see in action.

  23. I'm also looking at different cutting machine...please do a video on the Silhouette...I would luv to see how it cuts and it will help me get closer to chosing another die cutting machine to use my MTC.....

  24. I've been looking at the silhouette also. Hope you will do some silhouette videos!!! Please!!!! You are a great teacher. Thanks for all that you do.

  25. Please show your Silhouette in your videos too. That would be nice to see how the words/phrases come out using that machine. Thank you.

  26. I am looking forward to you explaining the similarities and differences of the two machines. Does Silhouette use carts or just computer programs? Thanks.

  28. I love my silhouette it was a great investment. I dont buy font cartridges so this allows me to cut whatever I download and what is on my computer. I will always love my cricut and never get rid of it or my cartridges this is just a wonderful addition to my cutting family!

  29. I have been hearing a lot about the Silhouette lately and I have been having a heck of a time with my Cricut not working properly. It might be time for a change for me even though I love my Cricut :( I would love to see some videos with the silhouette to compare them.
